“Today (July 13, editor’s note), HPE announced plans to acquire SD-WAN leader SilverPeak. This initiative will expand our technological leadership in the vast and expanding SD-WAN space and strengthen our HPE Aruba Edge service platform. ” It was with this message posted on the Twitter network that Antonio Neri, the president and CEO of HPE announced the news. Silver Peak will be part of Aruba, HPE’s infrastructure and network services department. The buyout would be made for $ 925 million.
Silver Peak’s SD-WAN offerings will strengthen Aruba’s ESP (Edge Service Platform) which already offers SD-WAN service. HPE’s strategy is to double Aruba’s capabilities by combining Silver Peak’s SD-WAN with Aruba’s SD-Branch solutions. “Customers will be able to simplify branch and WAN deployments to empower remote workers, allow distributed businesses to be connected to the cloud and transform business operations without compromising quality or reliability,” explained in a blog post Keerti Melkote, president of Intelligent Edge for HPE and founder of Aruba Networks.
Edge computing, a growth opportunity
HPE believes that the recent health and economic crisis has accelerated the need for Edge-to-Cloud architectures, as businesses extend connectivity to their branches and allow them to work from home securely. Silver Peak’s technology transforms existing WAN architectures into autonomous wide area networks, which is a perfect match for Aruba’s Edge services platform, cloud-based and artificial intelligence. It will complement SD-Branch and remote worker solutions, which transform branches and provide customers with a secure homework experience.
“HPE was one of the first to identify the opportunity for edge computing and this trend is accelerating in a post-Covid world,” said Antonio Neri. With this acquisition, we are accelerating our edge-to-cloud strategy to deliver a true distributed cloud model and cloud experience for all applications and data, wherever it is located. Silver Peak’s innovative team and technology bring essential capabilities that will help our customers modernize and transform their networks to securely connect any edge to any cloud. ”
